My daughter loves to dress up. When she had her eye on a princess wig at the store, I knew I had to get handy and make my own. Yarn works much better than plastic hair and I think it looks a lot sweeter on this little child of mine.
Ages: 3 - 8
A little messy
If you knit, this is the perfect way to use up all those yarn scraps. First, Emma and I got strands of yarn together. We cut each of them double the length Emma wanted her hair to be.
Next, we twisted the two pipe cleaners together.
I wrapped the pipe cleaners around her head and twisted the other ends together so I would have the right size to fit her.
Next, we tied yarn all around the pipe cleaner crown, leaving just enough room for her face to show through.
This step took a little while and I lost my helper half way through.
She definitely returned when she saw this! It came out beautiful. You could do this with just one color, but I have a child who adores rainbows and a lot of color, so we made a colorful wig.
She put on her new hair and let her imagination do the rest.
